Jumpstart Your Future in Extension Services with LSU AgCenter's Summer Internship Program

Are you a current or rising junior, senior, or graduate student interested in making a tangible impact in cooperative extension and agriculture? The LSU AgCenter Cooperative Extension has a summer opportunity that could propel your career to new heights. Spend your summer absorbing valuable knowledge while working alongside seasoned educators at a parish Extension office in Louisiana. The need for fresh minds and enthusiastic learners in this field is critical, and the AgCenter is opening its doors to students who are ready to make a difference.

Imagine a summer where you're not just learning from textbooks, but actually planning and conducting extension programs with the experts. Anita Milson, CEO of Mentorscope Community Outreach, champions experiences that take students beyond traditional learning environments.

"Real learning often happens outside the classroom," says Milson. "Internships are the bridge between academic theory and practical, hands-on experience. At Mentorscope, we believe in empowering students through such immersive opportunities, and LSU AgCenter's program exemplifies the kind of initiative that can ignite a student's career."

This year, twenty positions are available throughout Louisiana, and the AgCenter is seeking students enrolled in Agriculture and Natural Resources, Family and Consumer Sciences, Nutrition, Extension Education, or related fields to fill these roles. Interns will earn $15 per hour for eight to ten weeks, ensuring that while they contribute to the community, they are also compensated for their hard work and dedication.

What's more, the internship program is not just a means to earn, but also a learning platform designed to give interns a competitive edge. By completing a project, reporting, and producing a video that highlights their experience, interns will not only demonstrate their newly gained knowledge but also articulate their personal and professional growth. For those looking to integrate the internship into their academic journey, there's the possibility of earning college credit, subject to consultation with their academic advisors.

The window of opportunity, however, is closing soon. Prospective interns should apply quickly as the application deadline is March 15, 2024, at 11:59 PM CST. Interested candidates can find more information and submit their applications at lsuagcenter.com/exintern. For any queries or additional support, the office can be reached via email at ode@agcenter.lsu.edu.

Take the initiative this summer to blend academic learning with practical application. Engage with LSU AgCenter Cooperative Extension's summer internship program and see your potential grow alongside the crops you'll be helping to cultivate. Apply now, and let this summer be the one where you harvest knowledge, skills, and experience that will last a lifetime.
